A new school. A clingy classmate. And a power Diana still can’t control...
One hug crossed a line. One sentence triggered her power—and changed her reality forever.
**** I’m so sorry for the delayed Chapter, but I promise it’s worth it! More next week, Stay Tuned!!!*****
“No, baby I don’t think you're a frea—”
“She’s a bully. She deserved it, she deserved to be scared, to feel like how she made everybody else feel around her!” Diana said, cutting her off.
“So, you did that to her because she was mean to you? It’s only been three days.”
“Three days too many.”
“You can't just go doing whatever you did because a person is mean to you. You should have just gone to the principal.”
“But you saw how she acted when Jenna said it was me. Mrs. Cally believed her and immediately blamed me, and the thought of Jenna simply faking it to get me in trouble didn’t even pop up in her mind. Everyone is against me Mom, even you...,” Diana said disappointingly.
“No, I am not against you, there are no sides. I just want to understand how this happened,” Ms. Monroe said.
“Mom I seriously don’t know, it's like she just did whatever I said like a game of Simon Says. I didn’t even touch her," Diana said.
“I believe you, baby, I do. But, this cannot happen again, okay. I pulled some strings and texted a friend from the district office before we left the school, because I had a feeling they would react this way. He was able to get you enrolled into Carol Middle School.”
“You mean the same friend who gave you the flowers that you keep in your room?” Diana said with a raised eyebrow and smirk on her face.
“...Yes, that friend," Ms. Monroe said hesitantly. “Go upstairs and wait while I get dinner ready and you will be able to go to your new school tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Ms. Monroe, still confused. “What is going on with her? How did she command another child? Should I call a doctor? You know, maybe that girl was faking it. Yeah, yeah that’s the only thing that makes sense. That is the only possible way this could happen,” Ms. Monroe said to herself.
The next morning, Diana got dressed for school with her new navy-blue blazer, plaid pants, and two braids with ribbons fashionably tied in bows around them. Then, she ate breakfast. Oatmeal. Grits. Bacon. The whole shebang.
The bus arrived at 6:30 as usual and Diana walked out the door. While on the bus, Diana watches as the trees become blurred. She saw a brightly colored butterfly flying next to her window and she just knew it was a sign of good luck. It lifted her little spirit and a smile came out of the shadows as she approached her new school.
It was enormous. The whole building seemed as if it was made of glass on top of the breathtaking landscape; further ensuring Diana this was going to be a new start and she would do the best she could not to do what she did to Jenna to anyone else ever again... whatever she did.
As she walked the elaborate halls to her homeroom, no one really greeted her — not that she expected it — but it was as if nobody noticed she arrived and she liked that. She was blending in.
During her first class, she made a friend, Brian. Brian was an excessive talker and annoyed Diana a bit with his constant babbling on how much he knows about astronomy.
“Do you know how many stars are in the sky? Huh do ya do ya?" asked Brian.
“No, I do not Brian,” Diana, a little fed up with his talking, said.
“Well, we don’t actually know, it’s really too many to count. Isn’t that just sooo interesting Diana? Just imagine being in space trying to count the stars. That would probably take forever. You know I am hoping to become an astronaut?” Brian asked.
“Oh really?" Diana says while putting her head in her hands slightly.
“Well I do. I would like to be an astronaut at NASA and possibly a rocket engineer if the whole astronaut thing doesn’t go as planned. Do you know how many planets there are? Do you have a favorite? Huh Diana huh?”
“No, Brian I don’t know how many planets there are and I don’t really have a favorite planet. Astronomy just doesn’t interest me the same way it interests you and we are supposed to be talking about the environment on Earth not outside of Earth; we are in life science right now.”
“Oh, alrighty then," said Brian as he scoots closer.
“I like you, Diana, you're my best friend!" Brian says as he hugs Diana a little too tight.
“We just met today how... Can you get off me please?" Diana asks sternly.
“Why stop now? I like long hugs, you are my best friend, you will get used to it," Brian states.
“No, I won’t,” Diana said, struggling to stay calm.
“I’m still not letting gooo! We are gonna be best friends forever!" Brian exclaims.
“Is my teacher not seeing this?" Diana says in her head. “Okay, you need to get off of me Brian, I mean it.”
“Nevverrr!" Brian says playfully.
“Just stay away from me! I don’t want to be your friend anymore!” Diana blurts out a bit too loud.
A minute later it was as if Brian appeared out of the door and couldn’t seem to get in.
